About Lucy Bailey

Lucy Bailey works from her home studio in Irmo, SC, exploring multiple mediums including figurative ceramics, painting, mixed media, and combinations of various materials. For this Tiny Gallery exhibition, Bailey presents a series of imagined portraits created with watercolor, ink, graphite, and charcoal. She employs crystallized starbursts and blooming effects to add texture, shifting between spacious compositions with generous white space and fully saturated surfaces. Each piece is painted on archival paper and mounted onto a wooden panel, ready to hang.

Artist Statement

I’m delighted to return to Jasper’s Tiny Gallery to share these portraits! I’ve always been drawn to figurative work, no matter what the medium. There’s a creative freedom in the looseness of these portraits—the way faces drift into clouds or foliage, or dissolve gently into color and white space. Some pieces rest in the calm of blues and greens, while others burst with red, orange, and yellow. Take one home to keep you company; they’re wonderful secret-keepers and quiet companions.
