Born and raised in Sumter, South Carolina, Dominique Hodge, known artistically as “Jakeem Da Dream”, is an afro futuristic artist specializing in "AFRO ALCHEMY".
Artist Statement
Aqua Regia is an alchemical concept in which the "Green Lion" representing matter, or the raw materials, devours the "Sun" which represents gold and consciousness. An interpretation of this symbology is that destroying the old mind or ways of thinking and operating is necessary to achieve rebirth or purification. As a nation, we are experiencing a transmutation in which the old ways of thinking that formed this country's foundation are being dismantled in order to be reborn as something entirely new. The halo adorning the figure's head is formed into an ouroboros, an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon devouring its own tail symbolizing the eternal cycle of death and rebirth that I believe we as a nation must constantly go through to grow and evolve
