Artist Bio:

Katie is an artist based in Columbia, SC. She graduated with a BA in Art History from Winthrop University and an MAT in Art Education from the University of South Carolina.

Through my work I experiment with color and composition, allowing the materials to move across the surface with gentle guidance. I often create collections that focus on playing with balance, color, texture, and shapes within the compositions to not waste materials. Once an art teacher, always an art teacher! This provides me with an opportunity to produce work in playful, experimental, energetic bursts.

I enjoy creating abstract art inspired by poetry, nostalgia, and play. If I approach the materials with whimsy, wonder, and awe, the work begins to shape itself. Creating art with these habits in mind helps me to be present in my body and in the moment, and to be a conduit for deep expression.
