I’m Alexander S. McDonald Jr., a South Carolina–born artist who has spent the last 18 years on the road as a long-haul truck driver, always with a camera within reach. I’ve crossed nearly every highway in America, capturing the land with a mix of curiosity and reverence—from the complex architecture of rugged mountain ranges to the quiet beauty of a single roadside flower. Landscape photography and cloud formations have become the heartbeat of my creative practice. Through my lens, I document the shifting moods of this country and the intimate, often overlooked moments that remind me how alive and magical the world truly is.
Artist Statement
Once full of breath and noise,
the house stands emptied by progress,
burning under borrowed light.
Left behind, it waits—
unsure if decay is the end, or the beginning.
