Artist Statement
This is a Triptych featuring 3 framed portrait drawings of my friends, who are a part of the LGBTQ+ community; all portrait will be 18x24 and placed in the shape of an inverted triangle. The pink triangle was first used as a marker for LGBTQ+ individuals (especially gay men) by the Nazis just as the Star of David was used to mark Jewish individuals. It has since been reclaimed as a symbol of resistance and a reminder that we cannot allow history to repeat itself. In the United States, historically, our administrations have shown time and time again that they are willing to undermine the rights of the LGBTQ+ community as well as other groups under oppression and would rather uphold the status quo. Our administrations should tangibly support our communities at risk instead.
