Third Thursday Art Night with Jeff Amberg

Thursday, September 18, 5:30 - 7 p.m.

The Nook at the Koger Center • FREE

As a member of the Vista Guild, the Koger Center for the Arts partnered with The Jasper Project to curate The Nook, an art space that rotates on a monthly basis in celebration of Third Thursday Art Night. This month's featured artist is accomplished photographer Jeff Amberg.

Amberg began his career as a photojournalist in 1980, which is the foundation and look of the work he currently pursues. Since 1990, his ability to anticipate and capture his subjects in candid moments brings sparkle to his images in editorial, corporate, and advertising assignments. This exhibit features a collection of newer photography, leaning into the abstraction of form and subject matter.

According to Amberg, “I began this journey at age 12 with my first camera. At 19 the inspiration to concentrate on photographing people in candid situations became a life-long goal. At 29 my first job was at a small coastal resort town newspaper, The Island Packet in Hilton Head, South Carolina. There were influential people from many walks of life, there was sports, nature and wildlife, and most of all the freedom to roam and seek photographs of the indigenous people, their art and lifestyle, all contrasted by the expanding commercial growth and development of the island. My photography was awarded both state-wide and regionally during my years as a Photojournalist. In 1990 I decided to go out on my own, and during the following 29 years, skills were polished as I concentrated on the importance of lighting, both natural and artificial. Portraits have always been my inspiration and remains that way to this day.”

The Jasper Project’s Galleries Project boasts gallery spaces throughout the Midlands where we program monthly and seasonal visual art exhibitions. Additional Gallery Spaces include Harbison Theatre, Motor Supply Bistro, Sound Bites Eatery, the Sidewalk Gallery at the Meridian Building, and our monthly online gallery, Tiny Gallery.
